PRIZES AND BIDS
All pairs will earn AVP points based on their finishes.
1st and 2nd place teams will win gift cards, AVP gear, and qualify and receive a bid for the following event:
AVP Junior National Beach Championships
OR
West Coast and East Coast Championships
*bids are determined by AVP based on their calendar cutoff dates*
AVP is responsible for allocating AVP points and attaching bids to AVP player profiles the week following the event.
All "AVP America" level events are scaled on a points system:
33+ Teams - 110% of points earned
16-32 Teams - 100% of points earned
6-15 Teams - 75% of points earned
2-5 Teams - 50% of points earned
CHALLENGER & AVP CHAMPIONSHIP WAVE TOURNAMENT FORMAT
~ We will be accepting 38 teams.
~ Your team must be willing to play in the AM wave or PM wave based on seeding by AVP points.
~ The Top 18 teams sorted by AVP Points automatically qualify for the "AVP Championship Round PM Wave." That means your team does not need to show up until PM wave starts.
~ Teams seeded 19th thru 38th (20 pairs) sorted by AVP Points must play in the "Challenger Round AM Wave" to have an opportunity to play in the "AVP Championship Round PM Wave."
~ VERY IMPORTANT: The teams that finish 1st and 2nd in the "Challenger Round AM Wave" also get the option to compete in the "AVP Championship Round PM Wave." So for those two teams it will be a double-day of competition for the chance to win a bid to AVP Junior Nationals or East/West Coast Championships. You may opt-out of this, but it is available to winners. AM wave pairs are not eligible to earn a bid, only PM wave pairs are. PM wave pairs are guaranteed to finish top 20 as both waves are considered to be 1 tournament in terms of finishes and AVP points.
Why do we have a Challenger and Championship round?
We feel the top teams want competitive pools right from the start and beginner level players want an opportunity to get some wins and good competition against pairs that are more evenly matched to them. Having a championship round accomplishes that for the higher seeded teams to give them steep competition in all matches played. Likewise, preliminary pools allow beginner/intermediate teams to have success in pool play and a higher probability of making preliminary playoffs and winning in the AM Wave. This allows beginner level teams to get more play time and more games over the course of the day. Lastly, if you finish 1st and 2nd in the preliminary round you get to compete in the "AVP Championship Round PM Wave” later that day where you can guarantee a top 20 finish and have the chance to earn a bid.
ENTRY DEADLINE & SEEDING CUTOFF DATE
SATURDAY OR SUNDAY 14 days before the tournament @ 8:00am
If the tournament is full, the Saturday or Sunday 2 weeks before the tournament at 8:00am is the cutoff for entry into the tournament, for final seeding, and for any refunds. If the tournament is not full, we will leave the event open for additional registrations until the week before the event. The Thursday before, registrations will close and waves will be solidified. *Please note: last minute changes happen (illness, late drops, late partner changes, etc.), these can affect the seeding and schedule. Mavericks staff will call, text, or email you to communicate any changes as timely as possible.
Leading up to the event, we will send out an email confirming which teams got selected to play in the "Challenger Round AM Wave", which teams are automatically in the "AVP Championship Round PM Wave", and which teams did not get into the tournament.
Our Mavericks format allows teams to register later and still get into the tournament based on their AVP points. There is no crazy scramble to signup when registration opens up. There are no worries about the tournament selling out. Families can register early or register later. As long as you register before the cutoff date/time, you have a chance to play in our Mavericks Beach Tournament. Ultimately, it is your AVP point total that gets you into the tournament, not your registration date.
How are your AVP Points calculated?
AVP Ranking will be based on an athlete's best three (3) results (domestic or international) within the eligible window.
EARNING AVP POINTS & BIDS
All pairs will earn AVP points, but PM wave pairs are guaranteed to finish top 20. AM wave pairs will have to play in PM wave to rank higher.
